Congratulation to Dolphin’s Tim Daly who won the Senior Irish Schools 100m butterfly at the Aer Lingus Pool in Dublin on Sunday 12th February. A great result for Tim especially as he is studying for his Leaving Cert at present and still manages to dedicate time to his sport to succeed at the highest level.

Rotheram Results

Our group returned from Rotheram with a bag of superb results, club records, PBs, qualifications and memories from a great trip. Our Facebook page has some of the pictures of the trip.

Well done to all the swimmers and those who organised this and made it such a success.

Some Stats from Weekend swimming:

92% Long Course PBs
10 Long Course Club Records
36 Medals (18 A medals + 18 B medals)
5 speeding tickets (too fast for medals!)
1 swimmer of the meet ( Tara , as “Top Girl”)
2 swimmers making Irish Development Squad (Tara + NiamhM) – confirmed by Swim Irl — Brilliant news!
4 making Div1/Youths for first time (Michelle+Aoife+Ciara+Domantas = 15 of the AM squad so far!)

We still have many in Div2 and will be knocking on the door of Div1 by May/June. An Exciting spring and summer of racing still ahead.!

Dolphin Train with Cork City Squad

The best swimmers from the Dolphin and Sundays Well clubs to train together in a Cork City Squad

Swim Ireland High Performance Centres have been organised in Dublin, Limerick and Galway and have led to great improvements in competitive swimming. As a prelude to setting up a High Performance Centre in Cork, Peter Banks, the Swim Ireland High Performance Director, has asked the Dolphin and Sundays Well swimming clubs to set up a Cork City Squad (CCS), as an addition to training at club level. Training programmes in the two clubs have recently been reorganised and improved under Carol Cashel and Billy Campion. Membership of this squad has been decided by the clubs coaching staffs’ based on age-related qualifying times, assuming full participation in club training and competition programmes. Presently fifteen swimmers have qualified for the squad and training began with a two day camp on December 30 and 31.

In early January a weekly two hour CCS session will be initiated to augment club training. This will run throughout the first half of 2012, at which time it is hoped to include swimmers from nearby areas like Fermoy and Mallow, and, with Swim Ireland support, to set up a new High Performance Centre. This is all part of an effort to make Cork swimmers as good as those in any other part of the country and ultimately to improve Irish competitive swimming at International level.

Website is Being Updated

I am currently updating the website to improve both the visual appearance of it and the delivery of information to you the club member. You may see it changing over the coming week or so so please be patient. The information and updates will continue as usual and you will see small changes as we go through January into February.

Of course if you have suggestions or improvements for the site then drop me an email at kieran@grangewebdesign.com and I will be glad to look into implementing it. As a taste of what I am planning here is a brief To Do list.

Improve the social media integration with a new Twitter account to be ‘launched’ soon to complement the Facebook.
Improved Gallery showing the great pictures that we have and some older ones as well.

Irish Senior Schools Gala Information

The Irish Senior Schools Gala is being held in Dublin on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February 2012 at the Aer Lingus Pool, Dublin Airport. Please see the attached documents for information and times.

Please also note that there will be only 1 heat in the Invitation events. Swimmers eligible for these events will be notified when all entries have been received – the attachment only contains those wishing to enter.

Back in the water again on Saturday 14th January 2012. There will not be any class on Jan 15th due to a gala being held in the pool.

B and C Squad Sessions

Last session will be December 22nd. No swimming over Christmas. Back in the water January 3rd.
